Little Zion Turquoise Standards 2017

  1. Start with Taco Tuesday.  It is Awesome, if you are into it.
    1. Seriously though, it is hard to be our best selves when we are hungry, tired, or sick… so helping others in this group to overcome those issues is foundational in helping individuals and group be their best selves.
    2. James 1:27 (CEV) Religion that pleases God the Father must be pure and spotless. You must help needy orphans and widows and not let this world make you evil.
    3. I would ask, do ye suppose that ye must only have Taco Tuesday only once in a week?
  2. “Ultimately, unless people share common values, common beliefs, and a common sense of proper conduct you cannot have “freedom” and “self-government” because it will end in violence.”
    1. Those beliefs should be centered on the Doctrine of Christ.
  3. God is no respecter of persons. He gives freely of His knowledge, revelations to all according to their heed and diligence. (LE D&C 76 117-118)
    1. “Do not be confused nor fearful”, the Lord said why he gives men understanding. He explained to the apostles what was going to happen to him before he was crucified because “When the coming events unfold I will not be able to explain it further as it occurs. The prince of darkness will not overcome me, but he can overcome you if you are confused and fearful.” The Lord’s spirit speaks peace or rather gives us understanding.
    2. “Behold, here is the agency of man, and here is the condemnation of man; because that which was from the beginning is plainly manifest unto them, and they receive not the light. 32 And every man whose spirit receiveth not the light is under condemnation ”.(LE D&C 93:31-32)
  4. All divine communication is given to remove our separation from God and bring us back into His presence while in the flesh, not after death. The Lord has stated that the Book of Mormon contains the “fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ.” (LE D&C 20:9; LE 27:5.)
    1. “The Lord showed himself unto him [Brother of Jared], and said: Because thou knowest these things ye are redeemed from the fall; therefore ye are brought back into my presence;” (RE ? , LE Ether 3:13)
  5. Absolutely no sex, emotional attachments, or “bonding” with non-spouses.  Do not adulterate your marriages by your interactions in this group.(married individuals—also spouse defined as currently married to in this life)
    1. Adulterate – render (something) poorer in quality by adding another substance, typically an inferior one.
  6. Becoming of “one mind” (or one heart?) does not mean that we have eliminated disagreements, even major disagreements. But it does mean that we have eliminated contention when we disagree – that is, we do not become angry with one another when we disagree, and we are always open to having our own point of view changed. Strong opinions, loosely held, given and received with respect.
    1. And when we do become angry (because we will) we forgive each other and ourselves.
  7. We endeavor to learn the lesson of how to preserve maximum freedom to the individual, while still accomplishing the goals of the group. Ignorance brings captivity. Knowledge and understanding brings freedom.
  8. A group of equals do not govern each other.  They govern themselves. We teach correct principles and let others govern themselves.
  9. Be meek for the Lord is meek. We seek to emulate the Lord’s character, attributes, and perfections.
    1. Meekness means a person  voluntarily restrains themselves and uses the absolute minimum control or authority over others.  It is related to humility.
    2. There is nothing showy or attention grabbing about the meek. Instead, they are content to know they have a relationship and power with God.
    3. Enduring injury with patience and without resentment :mild a meek child dominated by his brothers (1828 Meridian Webster)
    4. “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Wherefore lay aside all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness, the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.” (LE James 1:4)
  10. We are only to use persuasion. Refer to RE D&C ? or LE D&C 121.
    1. The difference between persuasion and contention is that persuasion largely does not involve overcoming the resistance with argument and contention. Persuasion comes by opening up an idea and letting it enter into the heart of man or woman; then letting God take over and get the growth inside them. (LE Alma 32) The contention “is not of me but is of the devil who is the father of contention who stireth up the hearts of men to contend with anger one with another, behold this is not my doctrine to stir up the hearts of men with anger with one against another but this is my doctrine that such things should be done away.” (RE 3 Nephi 5, LE 3 Nephi 11) He is saying, don’t contend, don’t make people mad, don’t confront them, take a step back from that and I will tell you what my doctrine is. And then, “this is my doctrine, I bear record of the Father the Father beareth record of me and the Holy Ghost beareth record of the Father and me.” Every bit of that is internal to the proselyte.
  11. “The rights of the priesthood are inseparably connected with the powers of heaven” (RE D&C ?, LE D&C 121:36). “No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood” (RE vs , LE vs 41) The only tools available to those who receive power from God are
    1. “only by persuasion,
    2. by long-suffering,
    3. by gentleness and
    4. meekness, and
    5. by love unfeigned;
    6. By kindness, and
    7. pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy, and without guile—
    8. Reproving betimes with sharpness, when moved upon by the Holy Ghost; and then showing forth afterwards an increase of love toward him whom thou hast reproved, lest he esteem thee to be his enemy; (RE , LE vs 42-43)
  12. The Holy Order after the Son of God brings blessings and life. Aaronic priesthood endures weaknesses and abuse.
    1. “Adam blessed his posterity because he wanted to bring them into the presence of the Lord” (Joseph Smith, August 8, 1839)
    2. “Moses sought to bring the children of Israel into the presence of God, through the power of the Priesthood, but he could not. In the first ages of the world they tried to establish the same thing.” (ibid)
    3. “The law was given under Aaron for the purpose of pouring out judgments and destructions.” (Joseph Smith, August 27, 1843, History of the Church, (5:554-556)) Yet it includes the authority to baptize and can raise us up if we will allow it. “Only the ignorant speak in figurative language. It is they who extol the letter of the scriptures, saying, `There is nothing deeper than this.” (The Bhagavad Gita)
    4. Priesthood is at its core a “channel of revelation” from God to His children.  Just like neighbors make a neighborhood, a group of priests make a priesthood.
      1. “The Melchizedek Priesthood … is the channel through which all knowledge, doctrine, the plan of salvation, and every important matter is revealed from heaven … It is the channel through which the Almighty commenced revealing His glory at the beginning of the creation of this earth, and through which He has continued to reveal Himself to the children of men to the present time, and through which He will make known His purposes to the end of time.” (Joseph Smith, History of the Church, 4:207)
  13. Don’t take yourself too seriously.
